Nineteen questions, answered honestly. Confirmed facts cite Rockstar; rumors are labeled rumors. Updated July 2026.
Grand Theft Auto VI launches Thursday, November 19, 2026. That is the official date from Rockstar Games after two delays (Fall 2025, then May 26, 2026). Pre-orders opened June 25, 2026, so you can already lock in your copy.
The official title is simply Grand Theft Auto VI, keeping the Roman-numeral naming used since GTA V. You will see it shortened to GTA VI or GTA 6 everywhere. Fans sometimes call it Vice City 2 because of the setting, but that is not an official name.
Two playable protagonists: Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval, a criminal duo with a Bonnie and Clyde dynamic. Lucia is the first female lead of a modern mainline GTA. Rockstar has also introduced a supporting cast including Cal Hampton, Boobie Ike, Dre'Quan Priest, Real Dimez, Raul Bautista, and Brian Heder.
Rockstar's official setup: when an easy score goes sideways, Jason and Lucia land in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the entire state of Leonida, and they have to depend on each other more than ever to survive. Anything beyond that official synopsis is speculation for now.
Vice City and the surrounding state of Leonida, Rockstar's satirical take on Miami and Florida. It is the first return to Vice City since 2002. Confirmed regions include Grassrivers (the Everglades), the Leonida Keys, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga.
Modern day, not the 1980s of the original Vice City. Both trailers are full of smartphones, livestreams, and social feeds, complete with Rockstar's parody of viral Florida culture.
Rockstar has not published official dimensions, so all figures are estimates. Community analysis of the trailers and leaks suggests roughly 2 to 2.5 times the size of GTA V's map, with a huge number of enterable interiors. Treat every number as unconfirmed until Rockstar says otherwise.
Officially confirmed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S at launch. A PC version has not been announced. Rockstar has historically brought GTA to PC a year or more after console launch, so most observers expect a port eventually, but that is speculation.
Rockstar has not announced an online mode yet, and current store listings describe a single-player experience. Given that GTA Online became one of the most profitable games ever, a new online component is widely expected to follow launch. File it under near-certain but unconfirmed.
Reporting indicates preliminary work began around 2014, right after GTA V, with development ramping up between 2018 and 2020 once Red Dead Redemption 2 shipped. Rockstar publicly confirmed the game in February 2022. By launch day that is roughly eight years of serious development.
Leaks and reports claim hundreds of enterable buildings, dynamic physics improvements, smarter NPCs with daily routines, an in-game social media ecosystem, and 200 plus vehicles. There is also persistent chatter about a third trailer before launch. None of this is Rockstar-confirmed.
No actor is officially confirmed. Credible reporting, including Bloomberg's Jason Schreier and SAG-AFTRA filings, points to Manni L. Perez as Lucia's performance artist. That is as solid as an unofficial report gets, but it stays unconfirmed until the credits roll.
Not confirmed, and unlike Lucia there is no strongly sourced report to lean on. Fan speculation has floated names based on resemblance alone, but nothing is verified. Expect the answer in the game's credits on November 19, 2026.
Rockstar confirmed pricing when pre-orders opened: Standard Edition $79.99, Ultimate Edition $99.99 (USD). Copies purchased before November 20 include the Vintage Vice City Pack, and digital pre-orders add a free month of GTA+. Reports indicate the physical edition ships as a code in a box rather than a disc.
Two full trailers are out. Trailer 1 dropped December 4, 2023 and shattered YouTube records. Trailer 2 arrived in May 2025 with the first proper look at Jason and Lucia together. A June 2026 teaser revealed the official cover art. Trailer 3 has no announced date as of July 2026.
Rockstar always fictionalizes its locations: Los Santos for LA, Liberty City for New York, and Leonida for Florida. The name is widely believed to nod to Juan Ponce de Leon, the first European to reach Florida, though Rockstar has not officially explained it. Fictionalizing the state gives Rockstar free rein to satirize Florida culture.
Not fully detailed, but there is a strong signal: digital pre-orders include a free month of GTA+, which suggests the subscription carries forward. What GTA+ benefits look like inside GTA VI, especially before any online mode is announced, remains unconfirmed.
There is no confirmed progress transfer, and Rockstar's track record points the other way: every previous transition was a clean fresh start. The good news is that GTA Online on GTA V keeps receiving updates and is not shutting down when GTA VI arrives.
