What you need to play GTA VI on November 19, 2026
Rockstar has published a platform list, three dates, and what is in each edition. That is genuinely all of it. Everything below is built from those, and the questions still open are listed at the bottom rather than answered with a number somebody made up.

One of three consoles
GTA VI has been announced for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and nothing else. GTA VI is not playable on PlayStation 4. Sony's own listing states the game runs only on PlayStation 5 consoles, so there is no last-generation version.
This is the step that actually stops people. A PlayStation 4 or an Xbox One will not run it, and no amount of waiting changes that — it is not a performance question, there is no last-generation version to buy.
Check it yourself: PlayStation Store listing →Not a PC, at least not yet
There is no PC version announced — and the situation is stronger than an unconfirmed rumour. Rockstar has never issued any statement about a PC release for GTA VI: not a date, not a window, not even a "no plans at this time." Take-Two's own annual filing names only PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in connection with the game. Anyone quoting a GTA VI PC date is not quoting Rockstar.
If you are a PC player, the honest advice is to not plan around a port. There is no date to wait for, and anyone selling you a PC pre-order is selling something that does not exist.
Check it yourself: Take-Two FY2026 Form 10-K (SEC) →A copy — and it is a download either way
The physical edition does not contain a disc. Rockstar's own pre-order details describe the boxed version as a download code, so a physical copy still needs the full download and the console storage to match. If you are buying physical to save drive space, it will not.
Worth deciding early rather than at the till. Buying the box gets you a physical thing to hold and something to unwrap; it does not save you the download, and it does not save you the drive space.
Check it yourself: Take-Two — pre-order announcement →Enough free space, and no, nobody knows how much
Rockstar has published no install size for GTA VI. Not a figure, not a range, not a minimum. Any number you have seen is somebody's estimate.
The useful move is to clear what you can rather than aim at a target. Expandable storage is cheap next to a launch-night stall, and you can always use the space for something else if the game turns out smaller than the internet expects.
The pre-load window, if you want to play at midnight
November 12, 2026 — digital pre-load begins, and the physical version reaches shelves. November 19, 2026 — launch day. November 20, 2026 — the cutoff for the pre-order bonus pack.
Pre-load opening a week before launch is the single most useful date on this page. Download it then and launch night is a click. Leave it to the day and you are queuing behind everyone else who did.
Check it yourself: Take-Two — pre-order announcement →A budget, if you are still deciding on an edition
Standard Edition: $79.99. Ultimate Edition: $99.99. US storefront prices. Rockstar has not published a global price list, so other regions and retailers will differ.
The gap between the two editions is digital bonus content Rockstar has not itemised in detail. If you are undecided, the standard edition plays exactly the same game.
Check it yourself: PlayStation Store listing →Nothing else — no subscription, no online plan
Officially, GTA VI is a single-player game. The PlayStation Store listing answers the multiplayer question directly: it describes Grand Theft Auto VI as a single-player experience, and the storefront's own metadata lists it as a one-player, offline-playable title. That is the only official answer that exists to this question today.
This is where a lot of launch-prep advice goes wrong. There is no announced online mode, so there is nothing today that says you need PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass Core to play what has been announced. Do not let anyone talk you into a subscription for a mode nobody has confirmed exists.
Check it yourself: PlayStation Store listing →A pre-launch purchase, if you want the bonus pack
Every purchase made before November 20, 2026 includes the Vintage Vice City Pack: a '55 Vapid Stanier sedan and a garage to keep it in, a set of outfits and hairstyles, and a weapon pattern. Digital pre-orders also include one free month of GTA+, which must be claimed by March 31, 2027. It is excluded in several storefronts, so check before counting on it.
The only genuinely time-limited thing on this page. If you were going to buy it anyway, buying before the cutoff costs nothing extra and the pack is not offered afterwards.

What nobody can tell you yet
These are the questions this page gets asked and deliberately does not answer. Every one of them has a confident answer somewhere on the internet, and none of those answers comes from Rockstar.
- How many gigabytes is the install?
- Unknown. Rockstar has published no size figure, and storefront listings do not show one until much closer to release. When PlayStation and Xbox publish theirs, that is the number to trust.
- Is there a day-one patch, and how big?
- Unknown, and normal not to know. No publisher announces this in advance. Budget some headroom on top of whatever the storefront eventually lists.
- Do I need PS Plus or Game Pass?
- Nothing announced requires either. No online mode of any kind has been confirmed, so there is currently no announced feature a subscription would unlock.
- Will there be trophies or achievements?
- Not confirmed. Neither Sony nor Microsoft has published a list, and Rockstar has not mentioned them.
- What is the age rating?
- The game is not yet rated. Storefronts currently show it as Rating Pending, so a final content rating is still to come.
- Can I play it early with a VPN or a New Zealand account?
- Rockstar has announced no regional timing of any kind, and the boxed version's street date is a week before launch precisely because the download is what unlocks. Treat any account-region trick sold to you as a scam.
If a site tells you the install size, the day-one patch, or the exact unlock hour today, it is not quoting Rockstar. Those are the three things this page will fill in first when they are actually published.
Editions, retailers and the region-lock traps are on the where to buy page. The full record of what Rockstar has confirmed is on what is officially confirmed, and the questions they have never answered are on what Rockstar has never said.
